2014 Animo Heritage Sauvignon Blanc

94 points Wine Enthusiast

In 2004 we acquired cutting from a special vineyard known as the oldest surviving Sauvignon Blanc in North America.   We grafted the cuttings onto St George root stock and the vines have been head trained in the classic style ever since.   We believe the heritage of the plant material to be a direct import from the Loire, brought to California over 100 years ago, due to the vibrancy and character of the fruit and finished wine.  We may never know the exact origin, yet we understand the remarkable style and quality of this historical Sauvignon Blanc.

The initial aromas are firm nectarines, kaffir limes, grapefruit rind and Thai lemongrass with white peach and honeysuckle. The flashy bright fruit and integrated acidity are fresh and demonstrate a tension between acidity and ripe fruit character that elevates the mid palate before yielding to an austere Loire style finish.
